No worries mate, likely a different tune for the speedy motor than the Tiger. Somebody will know about that.

The piston part numbers changed back when the piston issue was current, not sure if Triumph changed the design, supplier, or both. Personally, I think there was more to it than just issues with E10 fuels but we will never know the full truth. Other brands are using cast pistons in bikes that make much more horsepower than our Tiger without issues. The revised tunes seem to have less aggressive ignition timing, the low octane "neutered" tunes even more so. My 2008 Tiger suffered the "pinging" issue early on, had the "Brazil" tune installed which is now the lower octane tune. It was noticeably weaker in top end power but I think it saved my pistons. Hamlin installed the revised tune as soon as they were released. It gave back some of the top end rush of the original tune. He also did a compression and leak down test on my bike just before it was off warranty in 2010 just in case. All was good and ten years on, still uses little to no oil between changes.

gosling is correct. It was Jim Hamlin's work that brought this catastrophic issue to the attention of Triumph USA, and his alone.   The problem was 'solved' by retarding the ign timing.  US ethanol fuel exacerbated the problem.  The 1050 Tiger's timing was more advanced than the Sprint, which didn't have the problem, nor the S3 due to forged pistons.

ditto on the above 2 comments. And to reiterate, Triumph replaced my 3 cracked pistons with cast ones, of which all cracked again, even though I used much higher octane fuel than required (93 vs 89) They then replaced those 3 with cast again, but this time I had Hamlin also download the Brazilian tune. No more issues after 130k additional miles.

No punches pulled on that one that's for sure. I like it. He tells it like it is. And to his point, the trashed piston in my images is the middle one with just a small crack on either side of the wrist pin cutaway on cyl 1.

OK guys. I'm swapping sumps now. I remember having to re-torque the bolts shortly after I bought the bike and that was a common issue. Has there been a change to the torque specs on the later models that may be different than what my shop manual lists?

I wouldn't overtighten them, I'm always wary with ally castings. I'd go with a wee dab of blue loctite on the threads.

I was thinking the same thing Paul. I'd rather have to heat it a little if I need to remove it in the future then to replace the sump now.
