Sean, are you still on the 2 rings showing?

My other settings are all somewhat similar to yours except I have 6 rings showing...set for comfort. The dirt line is approx. 45mm up the leg after a ride.

What I have now is irrelevant as I have had them re-valved  and sprung :007:. FWIW I do have 6 rings showing

Ok, no comparison then.

I never could get me yed round why we all had settings so different.

I'm on 5 rings and standard suspension. It's soft, but the best compromise for me.

Thank you to all who have contributed to this thread. It is the most useful thing I have read for suspension setup. I thought I would add my settings as I have been busy fiddling with them for an hour or two.

This is from a heavyweight perspective as I am 17 Stone (108kg) 63 tall and usually ride with a top box fitted.

I live in a rural area so a lot of my riding is on bloody awful potholed B roads so I wanted a comfortable setup that would not be too harsh going over the dodgy surfaces. I settled for this:

Front

Spring preload  6 rings showing. 13 turns out
Rebound damping  2.5 turns out
Compression damping  2 turns out

Rear

Spring preload  3.5 turns (7) clicks out
Rebound damping 3 turns out

This transformed the bike for me. It is much more comfortable but also handles better. On the stock settings it could under-steer a little and it could get upset if going over a poor surface when cornering. It is much sharper now

If you are on the large side, try it, you might like it :152:

Strange how we all tweak it different to suit ourselves but it's all so different to others of a similar weight. I backed it off until I felt comfy. Me 200lbs + Kit. This feels a tad harsh but lovely when I'm off touring with 100lbs of luggage onboard.

FRONT       FRONT         FRONT       REAR             REAR
Preload           Comp         Rebound       Preload     Rebound
Turns out   Turns out     Turns out       Turns out     Turns out
