I'm not clear which generation Tiger 1050 you are looking at.  Is it a Sport or pre-Sport, because I have a Clymer and factory manual available from my 2011 Tiger 1050.  Buying one or both would raise some funds for the forum as well, so it would be a win-win if you want to check it out in the for sale section.

Thanks - I enjoyed my time on the T800 forum, a great bunch of people.  That's one of the attractions for buying a Tiger 1050, really.  I registered on a GS forum to ask some questions, and while it wasn't unpleasant it didn't have the same vibe as the Tiger gang...   :152:

I take your point about industry trends, and BMW notoriously monetise anything they can, but at least I can get a Haynes manual for the R1200GS (https://haynes.com/en-gb/bmw/r1200gs/2013-2016).  It's frustrating, to say the least. 

Anyhoo, no point in sitting here and moaning about it.  I need to make decisions.  Thanks again for the reply and welcome.

Ref my previous post on cutting out the crossover tubes and blanking them off. I’m sure some of the you all ready knew this but, DO NOT. I’m all for not messing to much with what the manufacturer dose as usually there is good reason designing it that way. And here’s what I found on this particular matter.
 
“The torque-boosting effect of exhaust pipes arises as follows:

As the exhaust valve(s) of a cylinder open, a positive wave of pressure travels down the pipe. When it comes to any point of expansion (such as when it joins a collectors pipe, or when it reaches atmosphere), that wave of expansion also expands back up the pipe. If it arrives in the cylinder during valve overlap (exhaust not yet quite closed, intakes just beginning to open), it draws out residual exhaust gas in the combustion space and can even propagate into the intake system, causing intake flow to begin even before the piston has moved downward on its intake stroke.

Because positive and negative waves alternate in the pipe, at some lower rpm it is a positive wave that arrives at the cylinder during overlap. This reduces torque at this rpm by stuffing more exhaust gas back into the cylinder and into the intake ducts, thereby delaying the intake process. In motorcycles with carburetors, the positive wave also causes an over-rich condition, as the carburetor adds fuel to flowing air no matter which way it moves.

By providing another point of expansion, crossover tubes—which are often quite small—can broaden the rpm range over which the negative wave arrives during overlap, thereby improving cylinder filling and power.”

So I’ll be re-welding mine.

Personally I've never seen a manual for the later model apart from what's online on the Triumph technical website.

BTW BMW are now the same as well, all online unfortunately. Not good but it is what it is.

Bumping to save having to type it up again  :001:

No longer needs a wash, cleaned and ACF'd for winter and hasn't been out since  :012: other than to keep the battery topped up.
Changed the rear tyre for a Road Attack 3 due to puncture - that's almost new. OE Top box has been binned and it needs a new C&S (happy to do this and planning another oil change and caliper clean up anyway. I'll probably keep the bar risers unless the buyer really wants them. No longer use the TomTom but if I can find it happy to include, or happy to leave the Zumo XT cradle on (but not the Zumo  :038:). No issues at last MOT which is now valid till 30/09/23. Mileage is still under 40k. I'll also include the TuneECU dongle and workshop manual on a memory stick.

I'll be sorry to see it go but with the mileage I'm doing these days its hard to justify two bikes spending most of the time sitting in the garage - so somebody may as well get to enjoy it.

My first post here, but I was previously "Not_Found" on the Tiger 800 board for a few years.  Moved onto an MT09, which is great fun but not an ideal pillion bike.  So now looking at buying an R1200GS or last-gen Tiger 1050 for Summer. 

The one critical barrier for the Tiger 1050 is the absence of any workshop manuals.  Haynes don't do one for the last ride-by-wire models, and the Triumph one appears to be behind a very expensive paywall.  I am aware of the rules in relation to copyright, I am not asking anyone to email me a shady pdf, but I need to know if there's any reliable source for a good manual.  I'll happily pay £50 to ship a Clymer from USA for example, or buy a used paper copy of any reliable brand.

Long story short - if I spend £8-9k on a Tiger 1050 tomorrow, will I be able to access a good, trustworthy & reliable workshop manual?  You chaps must be using something, unless you're all relying on dealers to provide maintenance & repair?   If not, that's a deal-breaker for me and I'll have to own a GS    :006:
