Can't remember where I found this flow chart, but I found it very helpful.
Hopefully you will as well  :031:

So I did an output test with my fluke multimeter and while running its showing 14.5.  This appears to be normal based on this thread and my research. As a next step should I remove the tank and check the regulator?

Iím tempted to buy a new battery and buy a jump start battery but that may not solve the underlying issue.

Looks like your charging system is ok from that.  If your battery isn't a Yuasa YTZ14S and/or is more than a few years old I would get a new one and see how you go from there.
Do you have any accessories like satnav USB things?  If so are they only powered while ign on?  Some stuff can still draw power even if off or with nothing plugged in(USB sockets).
    Do you have an alarm?

Hello, yes I have these lights connected.  https://www.clearwaterlights.com/products/darla-triumph-1200-explorer

Some of the best led aux lights by the way. They are switched on only when the bike is on.  I also have a wireless phone charging puck. Iíve unplugged it to troubleshoot. It doesnít seem to draw while the ignition is off.

FWIW.... I had similar issues last year.  My YTZ 14 battery was only a couple years old. Cyclops aux lights similar to yours. Left me stranded a couple times after I'd been riding.  I'm not sure exactly what I did that made the difference....

I added a timed delay relay to the aux lights
    Stoltec cable upgrade
    Replaced reg/rec
    Shorai lion battery....285 CCA

I also quit using a tender on the battery. If I'm know I'm not gonna be riding for a while....like during last winter...,I disconnect the cable.

I can't remember where I bought my first Yuasa, but it was online.  Although there was a note in the box stating rate of charge when it was shipped, I have no idea how long it sat on a shelf in the warehouse :006: If I were to guess, I think it was the battery.   :012:

Good luck getting it sorted.  :031:

Well, based on the flow chart, my charging system is OK.

    12.5v ignition off
    11.91v ignition on
    14.35v idle
14.04v 2500 rpm rev and same at 5000 rpm.

Iím still puzzled as to why this bike will occasionally not start, and it will only click.

I may take the battery to a shop to do a load test next

    🤔

Your 12.5v is 75% charged. You can do a rough diy load test under starting load. I wouldn't press the starter with only 12.5v. Sprags don't like low volts.

My battery was holding 12.8+v but under starting load was only 9.8v, my new upgrade battery shows 10.8v under starting load.

Maybe your starter needs overhaul or replacement, best rule out the battery first.

So the new recommended battery for this bike is the Shorai lion battery/285 CCA over the YTZ 14 ?

I have the Yuasa YTX14S and the LION Shido 14BS battery. Both rated at 230CCA+.
A warning....at temps below 8C the starting CCA of the SHIDO sucks. The major plus is less weight and it will keep charge longer. At normal temps it is more than OK. And you will need a dedicated charger.
