    Are these bushes toast?

These are the bushes from my 2009 Tiger 1050 rear wheel, the garter spring on the sprocket side was snapped and wore the grove in the brown spacer.
The silver top hat spacer also has slight wear (it's that side, the brake disc side, that I'm replacing the bearing).
I've bought new seals for both sides but I don't see much point in fitting it back together if the bushes are going to munch the seals.
Potentially I can flip the brown one over but the grove is very close to the centre.

Anyone got any mint condition ones they'd sell maybe?

    Thanks

Interesting. I'm guessing this bike has some mileage on it? What made you go looking? I doubt anyone has these lying around and would think a machine shop could turn out copies without fuss. The wear seems pretty harsh. I've not heard of anyone experiencing this on the forum.

You could get them machined down and use seals with a smaller ID?

Not high mileage at all. I went looking because the brake side bearing had play in it. The scoring seems to have caused by the garter springs. One was snapped, the other had lost they lip that held spring. Never thought about making it smaller. Doh!!! I just bought the seal.
Interestingly there are a few complete axle assemblies for sale with even worse wear.

Where are you located Olly? Maybe update your profile. It helps! I've never looked closely at my wheels other than during tyre changes but assume the bearings are all sealed, right? So the seals you reference are likely dust and water seals. Depending on your riding environment, you may have little real exposure. Turning over the big bush (after a nice polish with a 1000 grit water paper) would likely be the end of your problem for the life of the bike. The other side is more challenging. But, I wonder how tight it needs to be? I'd be tempted to put a big O-ring on the inside (or in the groove) and see how it goes. Is the groove really worn, or is it machined in? If that very slight line is where the seal runs, I'd definitely just clean and polish and call it good.

The two deep grooves in the silver alloy top hat spacer are machined, its the light score in the middle thats been caused by the seal. I think I will do just what you said, smooth it out a lot with some abrasive paper.

The brown spacer will probably be fine if I flip it over.  I'm tempted to maybe fill the groove with something.
I wish I'd just machined it smaller and got a smaller seal. Oh well....next time.

The top hat looks like item 18, not sure which item the brown one is? most bits are available, not all in stock, so 2 weeks or so. The slight groove on the top hat spacer looks ok, I'd leave it be. The brown one, as you said, flip, or replace. Don't bodge. Get some grease in the seals.

The spacers are in all likelihood anodised.  So machining them in any way would remove this hard layer leaving the softer alloy exposed making the part more susceptible to wear - not what you want.

what I have done on other bikes and will do on my TS, when the need arises, Is machined down the spacer and then fit a Stainless Steel wear ring.
this is one I did recently for a BMW 800

I had a full front/rear set made in titanium by a guy on ebay who was doing similar things for 800s.  Cost me less than a new OE set.
