Servicing costs

I know the cost of servicing at Triumph can be eye wateringly expensive and is one of the most common conversations on the Facebook page - my mate had to get some sweet tea and a chair when my local dealer gave me the price of a 12000 service on my 2018 sport......

However I've just booked mine in at Youles of Blackburn for £548 for it's 24000 mile service, that is with their winter discount for Nov - Jan and its £685 normally. And they even throw in a free MOT during Nov -Jan  if you need it.

You may think I'm mad as I live in Kent but my touring buddy lives that way and will put me up for a couple of nights. Hell, even with a cheap hotel thrown in it's a lot cheaper than the 4 figure numbers I get quoted down here!

Another thing I have discovered is not to use the service booking page on the triumph website as that seems to be more  expensive than contacting most dealers direct, even the ones down here - always ring them. Their own web pages often take you to the Triumph page.

Another point for Youles is the service you receive, they did my 12000 service and when I arrived soaking wet offered to store and dry my gear while the bike was there - and were generally very pleasant and helpful - not something I've always experienced at Triumph dealers!

You mean economy of scale? Number of customers vs demand? I'm not talking Triumph, just that type of home-service in general. I know of no such equivalent here and even in the UK I think it's unique, right? And yet, it makes so much sense. Sort of. Workspace is the big issue. Where do the body panels go when you strip them off to do a valve job? How are they protected? A big, clean, Mercedes Sprinter comes to mind as a mobile work-space if street parking allows. Or, the customer must guarantee an accessible area. More complex than it seems at first. I'd love someone to service my bike in MY garage, but definitely not in most of my neighbors' tips!

One item I did not see itemized on the attached menu of services was Fork Oil replacement.  As I am approaching 24,000 miles on my 2008 Tiger, I am wondering what gets included vs what I'll need to specify. 

I bought the bike used this spring so plan to have the valves checked, coolant an brake fluid replaced and new tires front and back.  I have no obvious leaking at the forks so...do it anyway or wait for a problem?

The oil wears out over time and no longer meets its viscosity spec, it’s not about whether they are leaking.  If the fork oil is replaced then it will ride a bit better but it’s not really a crucial safety thing.

Mine got changed well past 24k, the garage commented the oil seemed very thin when they drained it.  Oops!  Needs doing again soon, too.

Trouble with Muddy Sump is, his reputation & too many recommendations, means he is booked up solid for 6 months or more.

I had my Sprint booked in with MS for it's 36k service for some time in the 2nd half of next year!

A bit late in responding I know but fork oil replacement was included with my 24000 service at Youles earlier this year.
