Tiger Sport 1050 2017 g.b. noise clunking
on: 03 July, 2022, 01:35:19 PM
Hi
Recently I toured the Alps and the Balkans covering some 4200km. with the Tiger Sport 1050 . Upon driving i heared a clunking noise coming i think from g.b. between 65km to 95km on the 6th gear and also slightly less on 5th . Noise is heared less and less on the lower gears. Upon accelerating and keeping speed above 100km. no noise can be heared of clunking. Not sure if this clunking noise was there before i started the tour as were i come from it is a tiny island and so do not have h.ways or similar, distances are short and can’t keep the mentioned speeds. Like some feedback from especially Tiger Sport 1050 owners if they encountered such noise . Noise is somehow similar as if there is backlash between the revolving gears . Also I like to mention that I drive mainly with my flip front open as i have a touring screen which obviously makes you hear more noise coming from bike.

Regards

Check the small sprocket nut, it might have come loose.

The front sprocket started making grinding noises under load on my 2017 Tiger Sport. Since then changed the front sprocket every 20.000km also on my current 2020 Tiger Sport. Price is only about € 15 for a JTF1180.18.

Still happening?   Some don't learn from past lessons, by now Triumph has to know it's happening. Figure out why or when it needs to be torqued back to spec.

I gave up on that long ago. Never had it stay tight. I just fold the tab over well so that the nut cant come off. My huskys just use a circlip and the sprocket floats, never an issue.

I had one come loose, after I'd torqued it myself.
