    New garage and shelf system
    on: 26 July, 2021, 09:19:25 am

We're moving to a new house and had loads of work done, I'm in the trade, on the supply side, and most of my mates are joiners/builders etc. as well as being bikers so I generally get value for money.

I was hoping to get the garage all to my self but no such luck  :191: we decided to use 1.8m of garage to create a utility room.

I'm left with garage space of 3.0m x 2.7m (10' x 9') I've had an extra light unit and electrics fitted, painted the walls white and I fitted some shelves at the weekend. It's tight but should make a nice area for working on the bike.

I plan to buy one of those bike dolly's so I can move the bike around to work on both sides. Anyone had any experience with them  :084:

The shelves on the right is where the front of the bike will be when parked, large shelf for luggage and a small one for the tank bag, sat nav etc.

Still not sure what to do with the floor, Paint? garage tiles? Anyone have any thoughts on one or the other  :084:

    A few photos.

Looks very neat and tidy - at the moment!
Not my experience, but I've read on other forums (I'm thinking of getting one) the bike dolly only works well on a perfectly smooth floor as the wheels are so small, also it's a bit of a pull to get the bike on the centre stand, if you use that type of dolly.
Not sure those shelves would last long under all the stuff I've managed to accumulate  :152:

I have one of these https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B0078M169C/
I chose that one over the slightly cheaper alternative because of the reviews that said it had bigger wheels which was better for non-smooth floors. It works fine but my floor is not perfectly smooth and both my bikes are 200+ kgs so it does require a bit of pushing and shoving - may affect your flooring decision.
Nothing is foolproof to a sufficiently talented fool.

One of the best things I've ever bought was the dolly. It is a Park-n-Move.

My floor is raw cement and it glides over without any issues. I could not live without it.

    Ordered one of these. :028:

I'm fed up of going cheap and regretting it..  :034:

I'm going to have a look at maybe fastening a piece of timber to the floor with a chamfer front and back so I can ride the front wheel over but leave the back raised for the dolly to slide under before using the main stand.

The shelves are pretty strong. Plenty of uprights and brackets, plus, the 18mm MDF is screwed to the end boards and there are 2 "T" fixing plates where the shelves form an L shape. All adjustable with a few screws to take out, if needs be..

I will be having a clear out when moving and some sort of organised shelf stacking might be in order...  :084: :164:

No builder, but off the top of my head I'd have thought resin paint (self levelling) for the floor. And I'd invest in a deeper bowl sink (personal experience of constant splashing).
