Battery?
on: 14 June, 2021, 05:50:10 PM
Any suggestions for the best battery for an '08 Tiger Sport? Recently fitted a new JMT X12-BS which is fully charged, but it won't start the bike. Checked with voltmeter at just over 13v. Checked earth continuity and cleaned all battery contact. Checked under starter load and drops to about 11v but won't turn over. Here's the thing. When I connect my Anker jump starter pack, it starts no problem. I'm thinking not enough cranking amps from the X12 battery? Is a more powerful battery available/preferred? X14?

Any assistance/views much appreciated.

Thanks
Happy Days!

Think the preferred battery is an YTZ14S

What he ^^^^ said, your battery is 180cca, not enough for the Tiger, need the YTZ14s with 230cca, give it some ooomph.

Yuasa YTZ14S is best.

Also an '08 is not a 'Sport' as they only came out in 2013.

A 14 is the agreed upon battery, the 12 was way to small.
I put a 18 then 19 with a Shorai.    Then to go overkill installed the Motec cable upgrade.   Made a video, if you do the cable upgrade with a 14 series would be a decent upgrade.

Thanks for all the feedback. I'll try a YTZ14S.

Also, chatting to a couple of mates tonight they said it could be the solenoid or the starter? One said try jumping the solenoid and if it starts replace the solenoid. If not investigate the starter. Any thoughts?

Thanks for the tip on naming Sidewinder. It still goes like s**t off a shovel, so is plenty sport enough for me! :152:

You proved a bit more battery power does the job with your starter pack.

Could be your problem is not totally down to the battery, but the only way to eliminate it, is to fit a decent one, then come back with results. Simple things first for me.
