One thing on the new 1200 motor is shaft vs chain.

With chain drive, the new 1200 could be the heart of a new 1200 Tiger Sport, basically like a Speed Trip with taller suspension and more room and comfort for 2-up.

And if they also do another version with a shaft, there could be a replacement for the ADV 1200 crowd  (Explorer replacement or whatever you call the heavy 1200 Tiger).

Spy shots of the new Tiger 1200 (exp) have already been in circulation for maybe a year:

IF a new Sport is on the cards I hope it doesn't resemble that
Something based on the new Speedy is more likely, please

Agree, I'd want something a lot more road biased.
Recent Triumph Tiger advertising videos have shown a lot of off road action, like this:

But I wonder if this is really where the majority of buyers want to go. of if Triumph are pushing the sector as the development and productions costs are lower, like the retro thing.

One thing that always attracted me to Tigers since the 90s is their do-it-all, go anywhere nature. Maybe not the sharpest, but a bike that does everything well, and built to last. (I'm not *planning* to blast in the open desert on one, but it's nice to know I could if the opportunity presents  :062:)

Well, if stunt riders can do it, shouldn't be a problem..........to a crazy fool.  :745:

If ya wanna go trail riding, buy a 100kg trail bike that rarely gets damaged when dropped. Last time I went on a factory visit, we saw a compound with maybe 40 bikes, all trashed, I asked what's with those, the guide said, they've come back from the launch with the journo's. They'd been launched alright. Fun, when it's not your bike/money.

Just had an email from Triumph who are planning on going further off road with MotoX and Enduro bikes.
Which maybe answers my question as to why all the off road stuff in Triumph promo vids.

They've probably been sued by people who've attempted taking these lard-ass bikes on anything other than tarmac & fell off.

Be good if they make some dual-purpose bikes (traillies) as well as the high maintenance competition models. It all should help with regular road bike design, hopefully we'll get lighter bikes, not so cumbersome & top heavy. Think KTM.

Received this email too and my immediate reaction was " where is the market? "  :005:
Going off road in Europe is already restricted and getting more limited in the near future.
Triumph wake up! We need more bikes for travelling as soon as COVID restrictions are lifted.
