Returning after 6 or 7 years
on: 05 April, 2021, 08:46:44 PM
Hey guys,
i was a member of Tiger 1050.com right from the start in 06 when the first 1050 was released, and received my bike new on 1/3/07. I was an active member for the next 4 or 5 years until i parked the bike up after 40,000 miles and moved to a Tiger 800, then to a 1200GS LC whch i still have.
I MOT tested and rode the Tiger a couple of times in 2019, then we moved house so it got parked up again, now its time to get the old girl out and use her.
So it appeared my account on here had expired, so i have just re-joined.
After riding other, newer bikes, it shows up how bad the mapping is on the 1050. So thats the main reason for my return. Ive just down loaded TuneECU and ordered a cable, so now i'm looking for a map to start with.
The map i have, which was loaded in 07, is the Triumph off road tune.
The bike is fitted with the following;
Blue flame can with baffle removed
Cat removed
Snorkel out
02 sensor plug fitted
K & N filter

The worst part of the map i have is the connection getting back on the gas just as you get into a corner coming off the overrun at anything over 4000 rpm, you hear the throttle bodies open as the exhaust note changes, but you get nothing then all of a sudden the thing picks up. This was always the case, but i'm now hoping to tune this out.

Can anyone recommend a map to use as a good starting point?

I have to say i am a little confused by all the choice of maps, and what the difference is between them, its all a bit new to me.

:401: back Stu, what was your previous handle?
From your set up on the bike i think most will probably recommend loading IndieTigers map.  :031:
Yam RD125 DX, Kwak GPZ305, Honda CB400T, 1983 Kwak GT550, Suzuki GSF650 Bandit, Tiger 1050SE, 2019 Tiger Sport .... got there in the end.

I have a TOR pipe - I did not like the TOR tune at all, similar to you it would bog down.  TCC put me on to the Arrow Race tune, I loaded that & its been fine
Triumph Centrestand & 3 box panniers.  TOR, dogbone out, Arrow race tune.  GIPro gear indicator.  SWMotech light mount with 3500 Komys.  SWMotech chainguard. Nitron R1.  Hand me down pointy indicators off son's Street Triple.

Welcome back Stu. There are about 3 custom tunes that will transform the 'old girl' for you. Indytiger' s AK Oldman's and also 'The Concoction'. I have them saved somewhere on a public drive so let me know if you get stuck. Takes 5 minutes to load a tune so why not try them all for a week and let us have your reviews?  :031:

:405:  or should I say back.  With only a couple posts guess you took a new name.

Tuning section sticky, Dikman's tune list works for your bike.  Dave's tune worked decent for the TOR, even heard someone load my tune. Had to be super rich.

Iíd put a link into eBay and wait for a secondhand PC5 to turn up, looking at what is sold certainly do not fetch big bucks, itíll no doubt come with a map in it already, but no problem to spend a few Bob and get it custom mapped for yours.

Have you tried the Triumph 2011 tune, Hamlin liked that, sorted problems with that year engine.
Also: '16 Tiger 800, '95 Yamaha Serow, '58 Ariel FH.
