Anyone here had CTS relief surgery?

Getting close to necessary on the right hand but left hand is completely knackered (unrelated) so I don't really have a spare for brushing teeth etc.

How long does it actually take before you get nearly normal use of the hand?
How long does it take till you can comfortably ride again?

Trying to decide if I should bite the bullet before we come out of lockdown or just keep sleeping with a brace and using cruise control for relief when I get the opportunity.
Nothing is foolproof to a sufficiently talented fool.

I had it, GP just told me to take Ibuprofen for it, that did piddle all. It went away on its own after about 6 months or so. Very painful for most of the time, I had trouble working on my bike, especially the high torque back wheel. Even wiping me ass was painful. My right hand is still a bit weak but left is fine, that was worse.

My wife had it a few years ago, she was in agony for a while before surgery, was wearing a hand splint for a while.
Surgery was done as an out patient,  a week off work, full use in a couple of days and has had no pain since.  :028:

:172: GP told me a few years ago I couldn't possibly have it - stop using the brace and take Vitamin B.
I finally took the plunge and got a proper job which comes with medical and an annual MOT. At the MOT I mentioned that it was waking me several times a night. They sent me off for a test. Turns out the GP was wrong  :157:

Reading through these posts, I'm now wondering if my GP got it wrong. As I said it lasted 6 months or more, from around Sept '19. But I did have it previously, several years ago, it lasted for some months then. The last time was much worse and same as you, woke me in the night if my hands were up near my head, with hands & wrists numb & painful, I would put my hands down between my knees which helped relieve the pain & brought feeling back. But then fall asleep & go through same cycle again.

Get the surgery Sean, its done under a local anesthetic, so your awake, doesnt take long and you should be pain free not long after.

One of the key things, to my understanding, is to know what caused it. Power tool use, vibrating bike, keyboarding, all are possible causes. if you know the cause it helps decide how to mitigate the effects. CTS was a huge problem for journos some years ago, when it wasn't understood well and many keyboards were not well designed, meaning no cushioning at end of key travel. And, it turned out, bad posture was a critical part of the problem. Which is why it's good to know what you reckon caused it.
