dying ? as in the LCD part or switch's?

If Lcd your hosed, if switch's you can replace them. I have some left from past repair's.

New one on me, first I've heard of this happening.

Bright side you can use  either the ABS or standard cluster.   If you get one in the USA have it sent to me, I'll forward it on for the cost of shipping.
Mind you Freddy is waiting on a package that may have gone for a walk about with no tracking just hope it shows up.

I had this happen on a 1050 3 button cluster. The LCD just started to fade until it got to the point it was unreadable.

Plenty of working, but physically broken units available on ebay (S3 1050, Daytona/ST3 675, Tiger 1050 all use the same speedo LCD) so I bought one.

There is a 24 pin solder row to be unsoldered to release the LCD and then you have to resolder the replacement in place.

I set to the job full of confidence but alas my micro soldering skills let me down. I used a small iron with the tiniest of tips and worked under a magnifier but couldn't manage it.

Perhaps your solder skills are better than mine so I've attached a picture of the back of the PCB showing the solder row if you want to give it a go.

Based on what I've read here, no personal experience (Thank God) the cluster holds your mileage. So, just be aware that a new display means new mileage with all the issues that resale will incur....

Odometer information is stored on a small EEPROM chip on the PCB. Replacing the LCD only, if you can manage it, will not affect that information.
