Hi MIke, this has all the indications of low voltage on the ECU - which often prompts strange electronic behaviour. I cannot think of anything else obvious. How is your battery?

If it's still bad the weekend, you could maybe pass by and get the benefit of two minds on the job! We can be part of the same support bubble (which is kind of true). And I've just had the C-19 jab anyway.

Hi Paullie,  battery is good,  fitted a yuasa 14 series a couple of years ago, bike never fails to start.
Thanks for the offer, am hoping to pick up the new bike this weekend if money comes through.
You mentioned the ecu, my clocks have reset the time, mpg and mileage counters.

If clocks are resetting as well, I'd definitely suspect voltage issues. Even with your new battery, check the voltage whlle starting if you can, and first thing after a night outside.

If not the battery itself, it could be the ECU connector. This shouldn't normally give problems, and it's not as exposed to damp as the Sport one (which nestles underneath all the relays, in an area which is not sealed from spray coming up from the rear wheel!). But with your mileage it's possible, and it is easier to get at, so I'd pull the ECU, give the contacts a quick WD40 and plug back in. That could solve it.

The other thing is the dash panel itself. You could pull that connector, spray and replug, as that is fundamental to the way the ECU works. No problems with damp inside the dash?

I'd say check the battery and earth terminals.

Thanks, yes as you and Sidewinder recommend i will check  battery terminals and start up voltage and give the ecu connector a clean.
No the dash is good thanks

My guess is a dodgy connector somewhere. I've had a few probs on my old traillie over last couple of years all traced to connectors, hardest to find was the one where one pin in a connector was pushed back when fitted. I've now had the whole lot apart, cleaned & eclectric grease, watching for the odd pushed back pin.

The handlebar switch has been checked out, or has it?

Good luck in finding the fault Mike.
