Oil Filter Help Required

Use a cap type filter wrench. Put the cap on the filter & drill 3 or 4 small holes in an equal pattern right through the cap & into the filter. Install sheetmetal screws, joining the cap to the filter & remove as usual

Thanks for all the reply’s chaps. Firstly I am obviously turning it the right way as I’m aware it is upside down ect. Secondly, my filter tool is a slip on standard good quality item I’ve been using without issues ever for over 20 years. It just cannot make proper purchase and spins due to how tight/stuck the filter appears to be. I don’t really want to go down the route of ramming screwdrivers through it as there isn’t a lot of room to work around it and I think it will just distort and destroy the filter without removing it. On further research and as one above has mentioned I think I’m going try drilling holes in the filter tool and screw self tappers through it into the filter. TMF on YouTube had success doing this last ditch option on his Street Triple when he was having the same problem. Fingers crossed 🤞

Yeah, I get that, most of the filter tools on sale for Triumphs are 65mm 14 sided. While the filters are 64mm so easy to take the edges off, if stuck tight. My tool is 64mm, a real tight fit, have to give it a light tap or two to remove it. Too late for that now.

My tool doesn't fit that well either.  Trick is to line it with a piece of sandpaper (grit towards filter), then knock it on tight with a rubber mallet. That's worked a couple of times.

My Triumph filter tool did slip once, I pushed a bit of Emery paper inside the flats and that did the job
