WTB - Skid Plate and Radiator Protection for 2010 Tiger 1050
« on: 29 October, 2019, 03:12:11 PM »
I have it in my mind to ride the Tiger to Alaska in the late spring of 2020. My OEM belly pan is cracked and useless and was probably not doing much protecting even when it was intact.  It is probably a good idea to protect the oil cooler and radiator while I'm at it.

Thanks!

Thanks for the suggestions!

I have the Givi crashbars installed on my Tiger - I'm not sure if the skid plate is compatible.

The radiator protector you linked to is for the Tiger Sport - It might not fit my older Tiger.
And when I look at what these protectors are - perhaps I can fabricate my own radiator/oil cooler protection....I'm sure that others on this great site have done so with varying degrees of success - I will have to do some searching of previous posts.

Thanks again! Always appreciate help from the group here.

Make sure you have upgraded your suspension, front and rear, or the bike probably won't make it.
Also, make sure you have enough fuel cans to make it from station to station.

I haven't personally made the trip, but have listed to many others that have.

If you're going to the Southern part, you'll probably be okay.
Trying to get to the Arctic Circle is definitely a logistic nightmare on the Tiger.  It wasn't intended for such a trip.

Enjoy the ride, and post pics!  :062:

"Which way you going?" they asked.
After some thought, I replied, "Doesn't matter, as long as I'm going."

It's the same product for all models. However the one you fabricate yourself is likely to be more robust  :028:

I'm still looking for a skid plate.

I decided to make my own radiator/oil cooler gravel guard from 3/32" (~2.4mm) thick expanded aluminum sheet, which I cut to size, then spray painted with a rattle can of caliper paint I that was laying around the garage:

The stones & rocks don't stand a chance  :008:

Take care you don't catch any body parts on those sharp parts whilst washing / cleaning.

Good job  :028:
