Plea for some basic advice please
« on: 14 September, 2019, 01:38:58 AM »
G'Day folks, Newbie to the Tiger 1050 owners club and Tune ECU forum. I have reviewed pages and pages of Website/Facebook discussions etc but I am struggling to understand some very basic Tune ECU details which I am hoping someone can assist me.

I have recently purchased my first 2009 Tiger 1050 with 172kms on the clock. It is in great condition and stock with the exception of the Arrow can. I have purchased the USB/OBD cable and Tune ECU kit primarily for being prepared for fault finding etc. Currently, I have no desire to change the Maps etc as it seems to ride fine to me?

Can I therefore please get some strait-forward advice as to:

a) am I really missing out by not altering the maps/tune? and;

b) what and how should I be using the tool for basic fault diagnosis and routine servicing etc? When I use the Test page it seems nearly all the tests are greyed out except for IDCV and resetting adaptation?

Thanks for the patience in advance and any advise appreciated.

Wow, a ten year old bike with only 172kms on the clock. That's a hell of a find.

What Timbox says.   Certainly at first, just enjoy riding it and getting used to it.

Did the previous owner buy the bike and then get ill  :187:

You will need to take her through the running in process carefully. I'd imagine the super thin running in oil has yet to be replaced?

The coolant will also require an early flush, as well as keeping an eye out for the brown sludge / casting residue starting to appear.

Personally, I do think you need to read which tune is currently installed and then check it is not an old superseded one, in need of replacement.

If she runs fine, without a snatchy throttle, then I wouldn't be in a rush to change much at all.

If you are running the PC version of TuneECU, then the greyed out areas imply you have not connected tp the ECU  :033:

First if I haven't said it before  :405:

Well yes and no.     IF you have the most current Triumph tune and it works good, your happy then don't F with it.

BUT, do you know if you have the most current tune for you bike.

Dikman's tune list and see what you have is the best way to know.

Lastly, getting your bike in a setup to run Dave's or mine is better than stock.   But that's what i've heard, worst case go back to what you have.
Do have a question, if you have an issue, can't see your ECU then you might not know what you had.  Not to mention, how balanced are your throttle bodies.

Just realised my typo - it has 172,000 kms!  I did read the map that was installed when I bought it and it was obsolete so up uploaded the current map (albeit couldnt tell any difference)

Tune ECU does connect to the ECU but most of the tests are still greyed out? :187:

Assuming it is the PC version and not Andriod  :187: try running TuneECU again whilst the engine is running  :028:

Forget trying to improve things with Tune ECU. With that many kms just be thankful it's still running.
