Oil cooler weeping
« on: 14 July, 2019, 03:10:18 PM »
Hi all, have a very slow oil leak on my oil  cooler on the left side. Noticed it the other day, appears to be coming from the bottom of the main body of the cooler, not where the hose connection is. Just get a very thin film after a 50 mile ride and a couple of spots on my boot and the belly pan.
Is there a fix or is it a new cooler which is 325 new 😱👎

Any advice welcome, I have looked on Ebay and theres nothing in the UK, just one in Germany that doesn't look too good. 😭

I'd give it a thorough clean up followed by a spray with chalk powder or talc, then fire up and identify exactly where the leak is coming from, for a possible repair before laying out big dosh.

Good luck with it whichever way you go.

Thanks Paul, I will try the chalk powder or talc, what can I use to repair it if I find where its weeping from?

I think almost any 4-row cooler from 955/1050 series will do (Daytona has a 9-row). Probably only 50 bucks at the wrecker.

Yes, or might be weldable if it's a small crack or pinhole but if its corrosion it's for the bin. Won't know until it's cleaned up.

Triumph F.... about with the position of the mounting brackets on some, but with a bit of ingenuity Im sure it could be done.

I did wonder if any of the other models might be the same as the coolers from the 1050 Speed triple look identical .. thanks TCC  :031:

Was looking on the Bikebandit website, the oil cooler part #T2100756 fits the 2007-2012 Tiger 1050. Also the 2005-2012 Sprint ST, 2005-2010 Speed Triple, and 2011-2012 Sprint GT. It is a US site so the model years may be a bit different in other markets.

Yes I picked up the same info from fowlers parts gosling, unfortunately there are none on eBay UK, there are a few that fit the 2012 speed and other models but they have different top mounting points  :023:
The only site that seems to have some is eBay USA for some reason  :187:

Just a thought ... Is it possible to fit the 5 row cooler p/n T2100486 from the speed if I also fit the matching mounting bracket (only 1 bracket??) :084:

Update, Found a used oil cooler on ebay this weekend from a 2010 Tiger.  :152: 125 incl postage... better than 325  :169:
arrived yesterday, i took it into work today to clean out the fins as they were stuffed full of mud  :004:
gave it a rub down top and bottom & then painted with some Simoniz High temperature paint from Halfords to tart it up before fitting to the bike tomorrow.

anyone realise the coolers are made by  KTM  :187:
