What kind of globe is this?
« on: 26 May, 2019, 06:11:35 AM »
Recent acquirer of a 2007.
Left hand headlight globe is blown, took the cover off expecting to see an h7 halogen, instead I have one of these, two wires go behind the cowling so no idea at the moment how to remove and find connector.. I'm suspecting I've got some sort of led upgrade? Possibly the entire lens as well?

Think its an HID, looks like someones done an upgrade. The wiring will go to the ballast and stuff somewhere

That is definitely an HID.   LEDs look like a yellow strip, and regular halogens look like every other filament bulb.

Dont despair, just get on eBay and find another and replace.   Loads around, and some else has done the hard work of finding somewhere to mount the ballast.

You'd be better off picking up a new one off ebay, probably worth getting two then you'll know they have the same specs and won't look odd.
Oops, just seen it's already been suggested...

Yeah I'll do that..
Funny thing, the high beam is also an HID, but it takes about 10 secs to warm up, whereas the low beam would come on strong as soon as I turned the ignition on, that's why I thought it was a halogen/LED..

From the base type, looks like an H7 HID so you prob have OE projectors still.

All HIDs take time to come up to full brightness (usually a few secs).  Also HIDs don't like being switched off then back on in rapid succession - which is probably why the Low beam one is gone as this happens every time you start the bike.
