Your'e absolutely right  this is from my manual
Use semi or fully synthetic 10W/40 or 10W/50 motorcycle engine oil which meets specification API SH (or higher) and JASO MA, such as Castrol Power 1 Racing 4T, sold as Castrol Power RS Racing 4T in some countries.

Triumph recommends the fully synthetic 10W/40 motorcycle engine oil for most conditions.

Odd isn't it...I thought all Triumph dealers would put the Triumph recommended Castrol in.
But then I can see why the manual would allow any similar spec oil.

Mine runs on Castrol 4 racing fully synth (as used by my Triumph dealer) and not used any...interesting though

I had heard that they put running in oil for the first 500m, so my take on that is semi-synth when delivered and then fully synth after that.
I know a few engines, even small 30cc RC engines that recommend running on semi synth to bed everything in before switching to fully synth.
Other bikes: 2017 Speed Triple R,  ZXR 400 race bike for track days and Fantic 250 Casa for green lanes

I asked my dealer what oil they used in my last service, they told me they use Motul.

Please tell me the tyre/oil matrix thread is like the what teaspoon thread on Pistonheads...    an endless (and frequently hilarious) spoof thread dressed up as an earnest discussion of the fictitious hobby of teaspoon collecting, stirring competitions, bowl shapes and return flanges, huge valuations and alleged auctions, underhand tactics at said stirring competitions.    Etc etc.   The thread has been running since 2012 and is up to about 4800 posts now, some comedy gold in there.

Yep it's gone :(  Real shame but motorbikes are supposed to be fun, not stressful!!!!!!  Have put the new bike in a thread of its own :). Sorry not another Triumph though, but hopefully you'll let me pop back occasionally to say hello !
