I thought this video, of houses that unfold, was fascinating!
Thought of you P2B especially, since the narrators says, 'nobody ever wants to live in a tent ...'.

While the base concept of initial portability and quick setup past that it's nuts.
Dealing with power throughout to begin just having wires bent once is enough.
They mention kitchens but the water cold and hot not to mention the grey and black water.
Lastly, sure hope they don't need to heat or cool it. Sure missed the furnace and ducting.
SO great for camping just a tad expensive I imagine.

My thoughts exactly. Also the title's misleading - they don't build themselves - they get built in a factory and shipped to site. Also means they have to be bolted down well otherwise they'd blow away or fall over in a stiff breeze.

I wonder if many have seen just how fast the factory-build house market is progressing. I saw a neighbour's wood-frame 3-story house erected in a day using a giant crane, complete with internal wiring, plumbing and decoration, and that was over 10 years ago! Course, they then had to connect to all the external utilities, and put on a brick outer shell and the proper roof. But it was pretty amazing.
I'm not a fan myself - my place is over a century old, and I wonder if the internal structure of these new houses would last that long. But they do show what is possible. The 'housing units' in the vid cannot be compared to regular houses, whether European brick or US wood built, but the design and engineering is pretty amazing, and show what's possible for fast erection of temporary housing.
My view - in the future we'll see a lot more of these. They could even form the basis of a new kind of traveller lifestyle ... for better or for worse ....

What your talking about your neighbors is what I was thinking of.
That concept is fantastic. Built inside, controlled environment on jigs with could you believe actual square walls.
On site inspectors that can monitor entire process.
That makes sense, BUT you have to have a foundation built before hand and then a crane to set it up.

I'm not sure if this info is secret but since I will not mention names or continents, I think it's okay. My nephew is working on a 3-D printer that will produce buses shortly, and they are building one to print houses alongside that. The future is very different than what we grew up with. By exponential factors. And it's coming faster than anyone thought.
