Battery for the Tiger 1050 (2009 Version)
« on: 22 November, 2018, 01:28:57 PM »
Dear Guys. I need a new battery for my Tiger 1050 (2009). There are lots of batteries in the market. Can I change the old standard Yuasa in a modern GEL-Battery or is my Tiger to old for Gel-batteries ? Furthermore can I increase to a bigger one with 12AH ? Which battery would you prefer ?

Thanks a lot for your support.

Micha

hi Micha,
i would go for the 14 series Yuasa, more CCA.  see the sticky at the top of the category for the battery number.  :028:
i bought one recently, spins the bike over lovely.
Yam RD125 DX, Kwak GPZ305, Honda CB400T, 1983 Kwak GT550, Suzuki GSF650 Bandit, Tiger 1050SE .... got there in the end.

I Upgraded to Yuasa YTZ14S and would recommend it.

I have an AGM-type YTZ14S in mine (a 2009) and it has been perfect. There are many different batteries fitted, right up to a 16 series, I believe (Indy?) and all seem to do a good job.
When folks ask me how I am, I reply "I'm here". Seems odd until you consider the alternative...

Shorai Li Ion.
Fried the stator in my 955.
Too many layers of circuitry and the charging systems in bikes do not like Lithium batteries.
Before the stator failed there was a slight blink in the headlights at 55mph.  I knew something was off.
I should have ripped that battery out immediately.

Interesting, my Street Triple has been running the same Shorai for the last 5-1/2 years, just installed one in my Tiger. Hopefully my older Tiger will get along with it  :006:.

Stock everything. Except battery.
It was explained to me that the extra layer of electronics in a lithium battery does not get along with the voltage regulator and will cause problems.
Left me stranded in pittsuburgh.  Mess.

Interesting I run two bikes with lithium but Tim knows my story of trying to introduce a lithium to my 955 and put the trouble down to the fact that I had an after market Reg/Rec and the two didnt get on with the result the supplier Electrex here in the UK now put a warning up about using lithium with their product.

Your experience is interesting can only assume that all things electrical have moved on since then because their are guys on here who run such on their 1050 with the only real hassle being the cold.
