Battery Upgrade ?

Decisions Decisions  :157: :157:
Ran Tiger on A Powerline  YTX12-BS was ok starting but always seemed strained and slow to turn over especially when cold, any how after 2 years its on deaths door looking to upgrade with something with more CCA this was meant to have 170A and 12Ah. Have  been looking at YTZ14S-BS but some sellers are saying they could leak if placed on there side! Even though they are AGM as this seller states on advert :

https://www.thebatteryshop.co.uk/exide-etz14s-motorcycle-battery-12v-112ah-205a-ytz14s-bs-ytz14-2281-p.asp

I thought the idea of AGM batteries was they could be mounted on the side etc unlike old acid batteries?

The Yuasa and Motocross (made by Yuasa) YTZ14S batteries are filled and sealed at the factory. They can be mounted on their side. This may not be the case with other brands versions of the YTZ14.

Is it worth the upgrade?

Does it fit the 2012 Tiger 1050?

Cheers for that but when put battery id in UK only search comes up with things like this which is even worse than battery now CCA wise 150A and only 9AH, :
https://www.tayna.co.uk/motorcycle-batteries/powerline/ytz14s/?gclid=Cj0KCQiAw9nUBRCTARIsAG11eieIgVIrIGSRj8bI9GduZ0_f8a9-4Fx0hX5v9hAB2BdKBuCk1amOHlAaAvSFEALw_wcB

Why do not manufactures make battery ID universal that one in America you linked looks a cracker but expensive to ship.

There's a fellow on Facebook who managed to make one of these fit.

He says he has never had a starting issue of any kind since  :031:

I don't understand this warning. I fitted the exact same battery, the Exide ytz14, to my T1050, and had no problem. The dealer had filled it himself and sealed it, and he knew it was going to go on its side, but still gave me a 2-year guarantee.

As you say, it's an AGM battery, so you should have no problem. But if you're concerned, best UK price I've found on Yuasa batteries is from MDS batteries - they supplied one for my TS, and fast too. For the Tiger 1050 it is:  https://www.mdsbattery.co.uk/yuasa-ytz14s-motorbike-battery.html
NB. They do say that: Please be aware that if this battery is mounted on its side or at more than 30 degrees from vertical in your bike then you must leave it to stand in an upright position after you have filled it for at least 24 hours before you install it.

Definitely worth upgrading your battery to the best you can get. Letting the starter grind too slowly over time risks destroying your starter mechanism (a very, very expensive item to replace - friend on this forum had to do it).

I am a big fan of the AGMs. I have bought a total of 3 of them (different vehicles) and not ever had one die  :031:

First choice for me NOW is lithium, second would be AGM.

IF factory sealed then should be fine. In the OP example I would check Exide's site and see what they say.
If not clear ask THEM and refer them to the site saying they can leak. One way or the other you will get an answer.

Shipping other than local is nuts.

It must be an  :172: covering misprint. AGMs have been designed so they there's no fluid to leak  :125:
