Alternative 2016 Sat Nav Mount
« on: 09 May, 2017, 10:57:40 AM »
This is a 30 minute job max!

Saw the nice home made mount fitted to the 4 bolts that hold the screen mount in place and had a go at making one but my metalwork skills are sh*te.

So came up with this alternative.

I butchered an old Ram mount to fit the space. It was a 2 hole mount that I chopped off the second hole.

You do have to drill a hole in the screen mount but when you come to sell it's easily filled with a rubber grommet.

Looks good.

For those that don't have a Ram mount suitable, you can buy the ball mount with a threaded rod to bolt straight on without the 'plate' at the bottom.

See Ram-mount.co.uk and select Components then Ram-B(1"Dia) for all available

On my 13-15 model, I drilled out the Head Stock nut and bolted on a ram ball, then bought a 3" clamp so the sat nav sits above and between the ignition and the handlebars

Good one r3d6!

I went for the four mounting hole seen on another thread. I cut it out of an old road sign, 3mm thick aluminium. Like you, my metal working skills never arrived. But I'm happy with what I've done. I wrapped it in matt black Gorilla tape so I didn't have to get paint sorted. I'll give it a try on my Germany trip in a couple of weeks. If I'm ok with it's performance, I will get it powder coated next Winter.

Almost exactly the same. I had one of these lying around https://www.ram-mount.co.uk/1-ball-motorcycle-base-with-hole-and-m8-screw-p-1294-c-238_286.html?sesid=302jc7re4678vmqlduo58ai0s5

Have ordered a short arm because I had the long one on my last bike.

It's that bolted to the 4 bolts behind the screen mount?

From the dark side this was sent

Was concerned it was too wobbley on the long arm but no probs with the short one. Will tidy up the wiring at the weekend.
