Starting dilema
« on: 16 November, 2016, 11:19:48 AM »
I have a strange starting issue. Sounds like a bad battery, but after three of them, I'm beginning to wonder.
Especially on initial startup, the motor will only turn over a couple times, and all goes dead, just like I disengaged the starter. Worse, the cluster display goes back to blank as if the battery has been disconnected.
On the initial battery (a 12 series was in the bike when I bought it) it occasionally did that when engine warmed up too, so I replaced with a 14 series that turned out to test bad at auto parts store. Got a refund and ordered another from different source. Anyway, to shorten the saga, I had to get another 12 series from Batteries+ or wait who knows how long before getting a 14.
It's back to the same antics; turns over twice and stops.
    Common problem? Easy fix?
The ride may be fun, but in the great scheme of things, it really is the destination that counts.

I did.
Local stores did not carry; went online....
First one came was bad. REFUND ME!
Second one - promised priority mail. After almost a week, I contacted them and they said when they locate one, they'd send it out UPS. REFUND ME!
Third one - Bought from Batteries Plus online. Email confirmed ready for pickup @ local store. When I arrived, "Oh we don't have that"
I got tired of messing around and not being able to ride with no end in sight. Bought the 12, but it's hard to believe that a new 12 series isn't up to the task when the original lasted as long as it did.
I get it... a 14 is better, but a 12 should at least start it for some time!
The ride may be fun, but in the great scheme of things, it really is the destination that counts.

Extreme XTAX12-BS (Batt+ said it's a crossover to YTS12-BS)
I even keep it on a trickle charger overnight, and the light shows charged when I try to start.
Have not done a load test on the newest one yet.

Don't know about that particular battery, but I do know about Batteries +.

Would rather do without than buy something from them.
Tried their products a couple different times, then gave up.
White Tiger Rider
"Which way you going?" they asked.
After some thought, I replied, "Doesn't matter, as long as I'm going."

I have tried 3 "super" batteries on my MZ1000 and none of them started it.  Put a Yuasa YTXH14bs in and it started up straight away.  Beware of cheap alternatives.
Keep the rubber side down.   Mick
