"Download" button greyed out in Tunedit?
« on: 06 July, 2010, 10:45:08 PM »
Hi

I had to refit the original exhaust recently, so I blew the dust off my Tuneboy cable and fired up the software. I loaded the original map, but the 'Download' button wouldn't do anything. At the bottom of the screen, it keeps cycling through various messages about connecting to the ECU. I don't know what prompted me to try 'recover from failed download' but Igave is a go - surprise; it worked and downloaded the map. However when it had finished,  the download button itself still wouldn't work.

Meanwhile, the Tuneboy diagnostic program connects to the ECU just fine, and reads out all the sensors etc.

Any ideas to try, for when (if) I put the TOR back on?

Cheers
John

Dunno, it sounds a bit like it's not validating the serial number of the ECU? Have you still got the access code they gave you when you bought it? Just check it's still entered under options/properties.

Does TuneBoy work OK?

If you have the ignition on and kill switch set to run, then I agree with Dik, it sounds likely to be the ECU key validation.

I checked that the access code is still in 'properties'. And why did the 'recover from failed download work? Insert shrugging smiley...

I didn't try running the bike to see if the 'live' stuff works.

What's TuneECU? Looks like I need to do some research!

Just uninstalled drivers and software and re-installed most recent - working now.

Any tips for a good tune for TOR can, Pipercross airfilter/airbox mod?

Of course, the bleedin' obvious with windoze, when in doubt do a re-install  :157:. If you haven't used it for a long time perhaps some other program caused a minor conflict? Whatever, you fixed it.

There's a thread on here about TuneECU. Basically, someone reverse engineered Tuneboy and released it for free. It doesn't read Tuneboy files, they have to be converted to .hex files. TuneECU has some additional features that Tuneboy doesn't have, it also has a couple I don't like - the graphs are displayed in a garish, multi-colour format (which I hate!) and the "3D graphic display" is useless, imo, whereas Tuneboy's is really nice for fine-tuning a map. It also works with the Tuneboy cable, so it won't cost you anything to try it.

As for a suitable tune, quite a few have had good success with the Arrow race tune. You can get it from the Tuneboy site, best thing is to try it. Towersk has also posted a slightly tweaked tune which also has had good reports.

Arrow race (20290 if I remember correctly)  Works great for me.  Remus instead of TOR can but otherwise the same.
