Motorcycles are just toys over here, those that want the status symbol by the expensive toys those that want fun reliable toys by jap bikes. Last I looked Triumph isn't exactly a "world beater" either.

I am seeing lots of slingshots  on the road anymore. It sounds totally logical to give up the overpriced victory line.

The reason Harley does so well is that you get the total package, a bike, a costume to wear, bike nights, barbecues and taco Tuesdays etc, there's a club you can join and go for scheduled rides...

You really do get the total package while they gently massage your (chain drive ) wallet out of your pocket. It's marketing genius at it's best, clothes for the little lady, clothes for the kiddies, knick knacks for the house and garage, all kinds of tinsel and gee-gaws for the bike and the most meekest types can get to be a Bad Azz Biker(tm) for the day along with their pals. That's why they own the heavy cruiser market here, they sell a fantasy lifestyle for adults.

Also, they're decent enough bikes and a lot of fun for the more serious rider if that's your style, you don't have to play dress-up if you don't want to. You can just buy one and ride the wheels off it and it'll hold up as well as any other bike on the market. I've owned a few of them myself, just not really my style though.

very true, you can not shave for a day or two, grow some butch George Michael stubble and sneer at everyone while you prance around in squeaky new leather chaps, reliving the misspent youth you might have had if you weren't so busy studying for you dentist exams and no one will bat an eye. Or tap a foot as the case may be......
